Consisting chiefly of legislative material and reference files; correspondence with colleagues, constituents, officials from state and local government, and others; topics relevant to Dorn's committee assignments on Agriculture, Public Works and Veterans Affairs. Other topics represented include subjects of interest to South Carolina and the up country, such as textiles; and subjects of more general interest, such as the Watergate hearings; tarriffs; watersheds; Polish veterans; atomic energy; public opinion about foreign affairs; and files on various persons, such as Joseph McCarthy, Strom Thurmond, and Mary McLeod Bethune. Also including files, ca. 1959-1974, re development of power plants along the Savannah River and the construction of Hartwell Dam and dam at Trotters Shoals; collection documents Dorn's opposition to the latter project, which was championed by South Carolina's senior senator Olin D. Johnston and Georgia's Richard Russell; related files can be found under the headings Duke PowerCompany, Keowee-Toxaway, Mead Corporation, and Trotters Shoals; see also Clippings Files series, for articles re controversy over the proposed dam.
